Maggie Raynor is regarded as being among the foremost equestrian illustrators working today. Having spent a lifetime working with horses—riding, schooling, competing on, and drawing them—it is no surprise that she has become best-known for her equestrian work. However, her repertoire covers other fields of illustration too, including private commissions and cartoons.
Her artistic pedigree is impeccable: after training in fine art at Sheffield and at the Royal College of Art in London, she spent a further 2 years studying and developing her skills in Dusseldorf before finally finding her true vocation as an animal illustrator. (Fine art training enables her to include accurate figure drawings with her equestrian representations.)
You will find books illustrated by Maggie in most departments of a bookshop—from children's fiction through to gardening and education. She has worked with most of the publishers producing equestrian training and management literature in the UK and has been the illustrator of choice for The Pony Club for the past 25 years. But her greatest love remains drawing and painting horses, particularly when in classical dressage mode.
